The Eclectic Corner #7: Song Lyrics

The Eclectic Corner is a feature on The Left-Handed Book Lover in which I talk about basically anything I want. A whole variety of topics! This is kinda like my chance to talk about non-bookish things. I came up with this idea because I really wanted to incorporate my love of TV shows and music somehow. This gives me a chance to connect with other readers and bloggers beyond similar taste in books.

For some reason, I feel like I don't actually talk about music that much on my blog, and that is just a plain ol' travesty because IT'S MUSIC WHO DOESN'T LOVE MUSIC.

So here are some song lyrics I really vibe with.

**disclaimer - I literally chose songs from my favorite lyricists, so while I honestly love all the lyrics that these artists have graced us with, these are the ones that really just speak to my heart, ya know?
THE RUN AND GO BY TWENTY ONE PILOTS

TWICE BY CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN

TIME IS ALL AROUND BY REGINA SPEKTOR

POEMS BY HIPPO CAMPUS

Have you heard any of these songs? What are some of your favorite song lyrics???

From the Page to the Stage #1: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Welcome, friends, to my new feature From the Page to the Stage. I am really excited about this because basically what I will be doing is "adapting" some of my favorite books into, wait for it, MUSICALS.

So, I'm going to choose actors/actresses I think should play the characters (we'll just pretend they are all really good singers, okay?) and I'm going to pick songs I think fit the story. Maybe do some other stuff. This should be fun.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead wins the honor of first adaptation because I'm currently re-reading the series and STILL IN LOVE WITH IT. (I'm ignoring everything that has to do with the film adaptation of this book because that was trash.)

My first order of business would be to change the title and give it a more appealing movie poster (I'm not great at graphic design, okay, don't judge me).

MOLNIJA
Characters...
(Only some of the main ones)

ROSE HATHAWAY

LISSA DRAGOMIR

DIMITRI BELIKOV

CHRISTIAN OZERA

MASON ASHFORD

JESSE ZEKLOS

MIA RINALDI

VICTOR DASHKOV

ADRIAN IVASHKOV
(I know he's not in the first book but I love him so I'd find a way to incorporate him)
Music...

1) RUN AND GO BY TWENTY ONE PILOTS
This song will be in the beginning, when Rose and Lissa are on the run. It's about how they have to stick together and fight all the demons and nightmares.

2) WHO I AM HATES WHO I'VE BEEN BY RELIENT K
This song will be for Rose, when they first return to the academy and  realizes that while she kpt Lissa safe, she hadn't been guarding her the way she should have been.

3) SHE WILL BE LOVED BY MAROON 5
This is Mason's song, when he finds out Rose fooled around with Jesse and he helps her out with unraveling the rumors and getting information and whatnot.

4) CREEP BY RADIOHEAD
This is Christian's song about Lissa, when Rose tells him that Lissa never really liked him.

5) TIMSHEL BY MUMFORD AND SONS
This is Rose's song to Lissa, when she starts spiraling into a really dark state of mind.

6) TRUMPETS BY JASON DERULO
This is the lust spell song!!!!!!!!!! If you've read the book, you know what I mean.

7) I CAN'T NOT LOVE YOU BY EVERY AVENUE
Rose and Dimitri, of course. At the end when they realize they can't be together even though they deffffiiiinitely want to be.
This feature was a lot of fun! I know it's kind of silly, but I hope you liked it. It was my first time doing this, so I'm sure it will evolve the more I do it. There were some songs I wanted to include but didn't, and some scenes I wanted to be able to find a good song for but couldn't.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY VAMPIRE ACADEMY MUSICAL? DO YOU THINK THE CHARACTERS ARE FITTING? THE MUSIC? I WANNA KNOW!

August Recap

Well, summer has come and gone, and now I'm back at school. kicking off my junior year of college. I'm about a week in and I'm already dead. College is so non-stop. I feel like I have very few moments to myself, and very few moments to myself in which I am not working on homework. Now, my best friend and I live in an on-campus apartment so everyone wants to come over all the time and our other roommate (who we didn't know) hate us because we're so loud.

ALSO ALSO ALSO I ALMOST FORGOT!! I went to a Twenty One Pilots concert and my oh my was that glorious. Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band in the whole wide world and now that I've seen them live, I will never be the same.

My blog got a makeover!!! I did it a few weeks ago, but I'm still obsessed with it. I loved my old design when I first created it, several years ago. But I've changed and my blog has developed, and it was time for something new. I was scared to change it at first, but I'm extremely pleased now that I have.

As far as reading goes, August was not the best month. Not the worst month, either. But not the best. Blogging is a different story. In August, I blogged more than I have any other month since I started my blog. I did my best to have a post go up every day, but there were a few days in which that just didn't happen.

Book Aesthetics #1: Summer Books
Help me save my blog!!!

I love thinking of new features for this blog, and it has been a while since I implemented any of the new ideas I've had, but in August I started doing...
I've seen people around twitter doing aesthetics for basically everything, including books, and I wanted to give it a try! If you don't know, a book aesthetic is basically putting together pictures that remind you of the book (the colors on the cover, the vibe it gives off, events from the book). I'm not great at it now, but I think I'll get better!

HERE IS MY FIRST BOOK AESTHETICS POST

I decided to compile an aesthetic for 3 books that take place in summer, as I'm back at school and lamenting the loss of my laziness.

Here is my most popular video this month! I'll be (ideally) posting twice a week. Make sure to subscribe to me if you want to stay updated on when and what I post! If you have a YouTube channel, send me your link because I wanna see whatchya got!

Music:
As I mentioned earlier, I went to a Twenty One Pilots concert this month, and so I kind of don't want to listen to anything else at the moment.

TV:
I finished Glee and I've been so emotionally torn apart by it that I'm left to re-binge watch Gossip Girl. Also, I'v started re-watching American Horror Story in preparation for season 6. I'M SO EXCITED HOLY CRAP ON A CRAP CONE.

Movies:
So, I watched Sausage Party this month. Uh, well. I'm not sure what to say about it. I thought it was clever and hilarious and utterly disturbing (but what else do you expect from a Seth Rogen movie???). If you're into really abrasive & inappropriate humor, this is the movie for you!!! Just be warned, there is a reason this movie is rated R.

Playlist Book Tag

I'm so excited that Anna from Adventures With A Book Nerd tagged me to do this! It gives me a chance to talk about MUSIC AND BOOKS AT THE SAME TIME! Originally started on YouTube by Little Red Reader, the rules of this tag are simple: Put your music on shuffle and you pick a book for each song that comes on. I'm pretty sure you get to pick any number of songs that you want? Okay, here we gooooo!

1) All or Nothing - Theory Of A Dead Man
Since I said I loved you in Las Vegas
It's never been the same since then

You've got all that I need
Looking at all or nothing
Babe it's you and I

With you I know
I am good for something
So lets go give it a try
We got our backs against the ocean
It's just us against the world

I actually heard this song for the first time in a Vampire Academy fan video about Rose and Adrian and YES. Ever since then, it has always reminded me of their relationship, about how much Adrian wants Rose even though she's still in love with Dimitri. Holy crap I need to re-read this series.

2) Saying Goodbye - Every Avenue
I know it was wrong of me to try to throw this all away
So if you give it just one more try
I'll give you everything you need
She said
"Just tell me what changed your mind, what brought you back to me?"
And I said

I thought a lot about the summers passed
Your hair in your eyes
And how we spent the whole night saying goodbye
Saying goodbye

BELLY & CONRAD
That's all I have to say.

3) Holding On To You - Twenty One Pilots
I'm taking over my body,
Back in control, no more shotty,
I bet a lot of me was lost,
Ts uncrossed and Is undotted,
I fought it a lot
And it seems a lot like flesh is all I got,
Not anymore, flesh out the door...

You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Sounding down the mountain range of my left-side brain,
You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Twisting the kaleidoscope behind both of my eyes.

And I'll be holding on to you

This song was actually really tough to fit a book to, but after staring at it a while I realized this reminds me a lot of Augustus and Hazel's fight with their bodies and their desire to make a difference, be remembered.

4) The Judge - Twenty One Pilots
But I'm not good with directions and I hide behind my mouth,
I'm a pro at imperfections and I'm best friends with my doubt,
And now that my mind's out, and now I hear it clear and loud,
I'm thinking, "Wow, I probably shoulda stayed inside my house."

I found my way,
Right time, wrong place,
As I pled my case.

You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
You're the judge, oh no, set me free,
I know my soul's freezing,
Hell's hot for good reason, so please,

This song reminds me a lot of Will's inner turmoil and his struggle to come to terms with his new physical state.

5) Walking in the Wind - One Direction
We had some good times, didn't we?
We wore our hearts out on our sleeve
Goodbyes are bittersweet
But it's not the end
I'll see your face again

You will find me
Yeah you will find me
In places that we've never been
For reasons we don't understand
Walking in the wind
Walking in the wind

When trying to match this song to a book, my very first thought was the ending of this book, where Emily and Sloane left their friendship.

This was a lot harder than I thought it would be, but it was a lot of fun. I'll definitely be thinking of these songs differently every time I listen to them. I might do this again some time. (Let me know if you like this post so I know if I should do it again).

I know this is a tag and I'm supposed to tag people, but I always feel awkward tagging people, so if you want to do this, DO IT. And you can link it down below because I want to see it!

Ten Fun Facts About Me

Oh yay I love talking about myself *sweats*
Here is some random information about myself.

This is definitely not the end of my tattoo adventures, though. I'm already itchin' for another one!

*the third one is German. "besondere" is on my left arm and "etwas" is on my right. It means "special something."

The doctor said if it had been any lower, I would have lost my eye. To this day, I'm still afraid of any animal with hooves.

No shame.

Thank the heavens I had books to get me through that time in my life!

Look at that mop. Look at it. It has a mind of its own.

I can't wait for the day I move there.

She's tough, sassy, and loyal af. She's not perfect and that's why I admired her so much in high school.

They speak to my soul. They are the most lovely human beings, and their music is insightful and just all around fantastic.

And I don't really intend to. Break out the pitch forks, gather mob, do what you will.

One day it will happen, though. One day!
